The ink got loose

The Painter of Mists spent a lifetime on the Endless Scroll, a scroll so beautiful its ink came alive. Now the Blots, living drops of ink, bounce across the paper, and wherever they roam the paintings fade to blank.

You are the Painter's last apprentice. Take up the brush, paint walls to seal the Blots away, and watch each painting return. Where the ink cannot reach, the painting remembers itself.

How to play

  • Swipe across the scroll to paint a wall: sideways for a horizontal wall, up or down for a vertical one. It grows out both ways from where you start.
  • Any stretch of paper with no Blot in it is restored, and the hidden painting bleeds back in.
  • If a Blot touches a wall while the ink is still wet, the stroke breaks and you lose a brush.
  • Restore 75% of the painting to seal the panel (a few ask for more).

On a computer, click to paint; right-click or Space turns the brush.

What's on the scroll

  • A hundred original hand-painted panels free in Chapters I and II: the monochrome misty peaks where a mountain sleeps on a tortoise's back, and a moonlit garden.
  • More chapters with Gem Arcade VIP: a storm coast in vermillion and gold leaf, the snowbound Winter Pavilion, the Blossom River and the Maple Moon, with more on the way. The first three panels of each are free to try.
  • Every chapter has its own twists: in Chapter I, quick Darts, big slow Bulbs and crags on the paper; in the chapters after it, a Blot found nowhere else (moon hares that leap, puffers that swell, twins that split in two, koi drawn to fresh ink, chestnuts that roll along walls), something on the paper to paint around (moon gates, lightning, snowdrifts, a river's current, maple seeds) and a power-up of its own.
  • Scrolls of every shape: tall hanging scrolls, square album leaves, round moon windows and grand finales.
  • Endless: replay the paintings you have restored back to back, for score: a chapter's own once it has shown you its twists, or every open chapter's at once on the Endless Scroll, with shared brushes as the Blots grow harder. Every Endless has its own all-time leaderboard.
  • The Daily Scroll: each day a new piece of the month's painting in the Painter's Almanac, with one change of its own, the same for every player, with Coins for restoring it and a daily leaderboard. With VIP, the Past Scrolls hold every day you missed, this month and the two before.
  • Today's Three and the week: any three panels a day, and any panels through the week, pay Coins in steps, and the days you play fill Hanko's stamp card.
  • The Studio: restore paintings, finish Daily Scrolls and complete chapters to unlock brush inks, silk scroll mounts and seal colours, then try them on in the Studio and buy them with Coins.
  • Achievements that add to your Gem Arcade Achievement Score.
  • Lotus powers bloom on the paper. Seal one inside a capture to claim it: the gold Swift Brush, the blue Still Water that freezes every Blot, and Jade Ink that cannot break.
  • Three seals per panel: restore it, keep every stroke unbroken, and finish before the incense burns out.
  • Master Hanko, the Painter's grumpy, kindly seal stamp, teaches you the brush in the first panel.
  • An original soundtrack, three songs to every chapter.

Best played in portrait on a phone. Held sideways the scroll still plays, just smaller.
