Tablescape
A calm tablecloth puzzle
Key features
- One move: slide a cloth. Everything on it rides along.
- The tablecloth trick: a vase holds the cup while the cloth leaves.
- Seven chapters, each adding one piece: clutter, odd tables, napkins, teapots, doilies, runners.
- 81 tables, every one solver-checked, with par and a hint on demand.
- No timer, no fail state, unlimited undo. A gold coaster for a perfect table.
Move the ground, not the cup
Every cup has a coaster waiting for it. You cannot pick a cup up. You can only slide the cloths it sits on, one cell at a time, and everything on a cloth rides along. A vase never moves. Slide a cloth toward one and the vase holds whatever is in front of it while the cloth slips away underneath: the tablecloth trick, and the last move of most levels.
Seven chapters, one new piece each
- Setting the Table teaches the slide, the ride and the trick.
- Clutter adds salt shakers that ride and block but have no home.
- Odd Tables brings notches, holes and the seam between two tables pushed together. A cloth can bridge it; a cup can never be left over it.
- Napkins are small cloths that ride the big ones and slide on their own.
- Teapots pour. A cup that ends a move beside a pot is full, and once a pot is on the table every cup wants tea. A full cup held by a vase spills. The pot has a trivet to come home to.
- Doilies and Runners want a cup to finish on the cloth, and give you cloths that slide only one way.
- The Banquet puts everything on one table.
No pressure
There is no timer and nothing ever breaks. Undo is free and unlimited. A hint shows the next move whenever you want one. Finish a table at par without a hint and it earns a quiet gold coaster; the rest is just tables to set.
Eighty-one tables, every one proved by the solver that also gives you hints.
