Refurb
Take it apart. Make it work.
Key features
- Two jobs: a filthy phone, and a pocket console with a cracked screen and no sound
- Tap the body and it lifts its edge to you; tap a part and the view comes to it
- Screws you hold to ratchet out, snap clips that pop, a battery lid that slides
- Three cleaning tools, plus replace, reseat and solder
- A self test at the end: buttons, speaker, contrast, then the note is answered
- No timers, no fail states. Take your time.
A grubby phone. A pocket console with a cracked screen that makes no sound. Each one comes with a note from whoever owns it. Open it up and put it right.
It comes to you
Tap the body and it lifts its edge to show you the screws. Tap a part and the view moves in on it, with whatever holds it lit up. Nothing to steer.
Take it apart
Hold a screw to run it out with a speeding ratchet, or just tap it. Pop the snap clips. Slide the battery lid off. Every part is held by something, and only comes out in an order that makes sense.
Fix it, not just clean it
A brush lifts dust, a cloth takes fingerprints, a swab with solvent gets the grime and leaves a wet sheen that dries. A torn speaker or a cracked screen gets replaced: it leaves, a parcel drops in, the new one is inside. A loose ribbon cable gets pushed home. A cracked solder joint gets the iron.
Put it back, then prove it
Drag each clean part home and feel it seat with a click. Drive the screws back in. Then it boots, and you test it: press every button, tap the speaker, roll the contrast wheel. When the last test passes, the note is answered.
