Today's word chain awaits

Every day, Linked sets a fresh chain of seven words in type. Each neighbouring pair forms a common compound word or phrase — news paper, paper back, back hand — and only the first and last words are printed. The five between are yours to find, working strictly from the top down.

Guess the word touching the solved edge of the chain. A wrong guess prints one more of its letters — a helping hand that costs 5 of that word's 20 points. Let a whole word print itself and it's worth nothing. Word lengths stay hidden: a box appears for every letter you type, so the shape of the answer is part of the mystery.

In every edition

  • A hand-set chain of compounds every day, with an archive of past editions
  • Letterpress presentation: ink stamps, typewriter keys, paper confetti and a satisfying press ka-chunk for every word you set
  • Streaks and a personal ledger of your record, following you across devices
  • A shareable result grid for bragging rights

Bring your sharpest pencil. The presses run at midnight.
